Siamese cats are familiar to many of us from movies such as The Aristocats. They are a popular breed among cat owners. This breed offers many unique colors. The ‘points’, which refer to the tail, ears, paws, and face, are darker in color than the rest of the body.
They also have stunning blue eyes that seem to be able to look into your soul. Siamese cats have blue eyes due to a lack of pigment in their eyes. If you see a cat with blue eyes and colored points, you have stumbled across a Siamese!
They are very agile and will have no issue getting into places you didn’t think they would be able to reach.
Along with unique color patterns, the Siamese breed comes with a fun personality. I owned Siamese cats while growing up, and I found them to be an extremely intelligent breed. Often, they act more like a dog than a cat, which makes owning them sometimes more of a challenge!

You can also have conversations with a Siamese cat. It doesn’t matter what you say. If you talk to them, they will talk back in some way. Give it a try; it can be pretty entertaining!
Many people believe that the Siamese cat is one of the most intelligent felines out there. This is not a cat that will be happy being left alone all day. If they do need to be left alone, it is in the owner’s best interest to give them plenty of toys and puzzles to keep them occupied throughout the day.

It wouldn’t be surprising for a Siamese cat to be found swimming in a bathtub. When people say this breed loves water, the love goes to an extreme. Always supervise your cats when they are playing in the water where they are submerged just in case they get into a situation where they need your help to get out.
A fun way to play with your Siamese could be to fill up the tub and put toys that float for them to bat around and play with. Or, just fill up the tub a little and let them go crazy. Either way, you and your Siamese will both be entertained.
It is not uncommon for someone who owns a Siamese cat to say that they thought they were getting a cat, not a dog. This breed is well-known for having many dog-like tendencies.
One of them is their ability to play fetch. They can learn the game quickly. Throw in their acrobatic abilities, and it is a great exercise for them. You can use something simple like a crumpled up paper ball that is light and easy for them to carry. Once your cat learns this game, you will find them catching on fast and wanting to play for hours.
These cats also tend to be pretty fast, so don’t be surprised if you see a blur zooming back and forth. They enjoy running and it is a way for them to get rid of any pent up energy.
Another option is to use the same paper ball and throw it in the air. If they are in the mood to play, they will jump up and hit it back to you.
Just see what your Siamese enjoys doing the most and try to think of new and creative ways to play with them. They are extremely smart, so they will get bored quickly, so be sure to change up the games every so often.
Another way the Siamese cat is like a dog is how much they prefer and crave human interaction and attention. They tend to become very bonded to a particular person. They may show love and affection for everyone in the house, but there will always be that one person they want to spend all of their time with.
It can be said that the Siamese can even become possessive and extremely protective over the person they have deemed as their own. If you are the chosen person, this is great. They will enjoy curling up on your lap and demanding pets constantly. If you aren’t the chosen person, tread carefully! They can be somewhat moody and strike when you aren’t expecting it.
The Siamese breed can be a ton of fun to own, and their different color patterns really make them stand out. Their dog-like tendencies and playful antics can make them a joy to watch and can really liven up a household.
However, with how demanding these cats can be, they may not be for everyone. If you are planning on adopting a cat with the idea that they are going to sun themselves in the window all day, you will want to steer clear of the Siamese breed.
Don’t get me wrong, they do sleep and lounge-like other cat breeds do, but they are much more active. They can be a lot to handle for the first time cat owner.
If you aren’t ready for endless conversations and deciphering what each meow and grumble means, the Siamese cat may not be right for you. They have an array of different vocalizations that you will need to learn and understand to successfully interact with your cat. There is a difference between the warning grumble and the needy meowing.
It may seem like there are a lot of traits discussed to steer you away from owning a Siamese. The reason these traits have were highlighted is that many people adopt this breed and have no knowledge. They then end up at a shelter because the person was not knowledgeable and became overwhelmed and had to give them up. Do your due diligence and educate yourself before bringing this breed into your home. Another way to learn about them is to go volunteer at a rescue that specializes in Siamese cats. If they don’t allow volunteering, you can try to speak to the people that work there. They would be able to give you some great insight into the breed and help you decide if one is for you.
